A landmark on the ancient Ridgeway path, St Botolph’s is a spiritual place and a haven of peace. It sits in a beautiful location and its quiet, unpretentious simplicity inspires attachment both from its regular congregation and the numerous passing visitors, many of them walkers, who continue a 1,000-year old tradition of pilgrimage and worship. The rural parish of Swyncombe comprises several hamlets. It lies two miles west of Cookley Green, between Nettlebed and Watlington. The church is surrounded by farmland. Meetings and social events take place at Russells Water Village Hall, three miles away. St Botolph’s is a Grade II* listed early Norman church, and has sustained people spiritually for 1,000.
